THE GALWAY MUSIC RESIDENCY

WELCOME TO THE 2013/14 SEASON OF

THE GALWAY MUSIC RESIDENCY

Our 10th Anniversary year celebrated last season will burn brightly in our memories in the years to come.  And now, we look forward to our new season beginning October 2013 with great anticipation.

We are in a new home - St. Mary's College - and are part of The Galway Music Centre along with Music for Galway and Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe.  And, on the weekends you can hear the sounds of Galway Adult Strings and the Galway Youth Orchestra in the hallways.  The atmosphere is inspiring!  We have officially appointed Adrian Mantu and Bogdan Sofei as co-artistic directors of The Residency and are excited to see their plans unfold during the next year.

This year's programme brings us right back to the heart of it all - where it all began - here in Galway.  We will be working with local artists and groups such as Máirtín O'Connor, one of the most loved musicians in the West of Ireland; Kathleen Loughnane, a harp player from Co. Tipperary who has lived in Galway since 1982 and will feature in our special Christmas concert; and our talented and enthusiastic group of local music teachers who meet every month to play and discuss music with ConTempo at Master Sessions.  You can also look forward to performances in some our favourite places such as the Galway City Library, where our popular Lunchtime @ the Library takes place; the Galway City Museum, who will host our first New Music:New Audiences EU Project concert; and throughout the new buildings on the NUI Galway campus in a collaborative project called 'Space & Sound,' which celebrates architecture and music.

There will also be education programmes thoughout the city and county for all ages - from young children to adults - with Adventures in Music, the Galway Education Centre, Athenry Heritage Centre, Maion Cheoil na Gaillimhe, Galway Youth Orchestra, Galway Adult Strings and St. Patrick's Brass Band.

The board and staff, along with The Galway Ensemble in Residence, ConTempo Quartet welcome you to join us during this exciting year.  We look forward to seeing you at our performances and activities.
